Melissa is a renowned group exercise instructor and personal trainer who has been actively involved in the fitness industry for over 13 years. Her involvement began with a lifelong passion for dance which expanded to include fitness through group exercise classes and then personal training.

Melissa began as a gym member with an interest in physical wellbeing and after taking a YWCA instructor course, unleashed a whole new passion for helping others reach their health and fitness goals by having fun.

She has completed fitness certifications through the YMCA, Can-Fit-Pro, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) and most recently became ZUMBA certified! Specialty courses she has completed include Pre & Post Natal Fitness Leader and Youth Fitness Training. Melissa has experience working with older adults through senior programs such as Yise Weights and Elderobics. She has worked for the YMCA as a program coordinator and director of fitness in Halifax as well as Auckland, New Zealand, and taught a variety of fitness classes in Halifax, Toronto, Australia, and New Zealand! In August 2009, Melissa was named Group Fitness Instructor of the Year- Freestyle, North Island of New Zealand.

One of Melissa’s favorite things to do is guide a group of people to achieve things they never imagined they could achieve. Through group exercise classes and small group training programs such as Boot Camp or Core Power, Melissa has been able to help hundreds of people reach their goals and sometimes even forget they are exercising! Fun is high on the list of priorities for Melissa’s programs!

Besides being a group instructor, throughout her career in fitness, Melissa has also been a YMCA Trainer of Trainers, a presenter at local and national fitness conferences such as Can-Fit-Pro, a personal trainer working one on one with clients, and an organizer of special group fitness events. She has assisted with teaching the Dance curriculum in the Theatre Department at Dalhousie University, facilitated numerous YMCA Instructor Certification courses, and managed the recertification of all YMCA fitness instructors and trainers for the HRM.
